Health coverage is a basic family necessity, yet so many have recently lost their insurance benefits as their work hours were reduced, or they were laid off as a result of the pandemic. This gap in coverage can be financially catastrophic if a medical emergency arises. Our 211 Call Specialist recently received a call from a Mom of a preschooler who was seeking assistance with verifying her income to determine eligibility for Medi-Cal benefits, and was having a difficult time obtaining employment verification from her previous employer.
Our 211 Call Specialist empathetically listened to the caller’s needs and directed her to resources to help her with her situation. Our Call Specialist suggested that the caller speak with the management of her former employer regarding employee rights and a separation letter, and provided her with a resource to verify what her rights are to applying for Medi-Cal.

A week later, our 211 Call Specialist followed-up with the caller and the caller was able to obtain the separation letter from her previous employer and complete her Medi-Cal application. Our 211 Call Specialist was also able to provide her with a resource for her child to see a physician to complete the physical form for school.
